Baby Smoove - Baby 2

Baby 2 doesn’t just play — it seeps. It moves like smoke curling under a door, slow and confident, knowing it’ll fill the whole room eventually. Baby Smoove has always rapped like he’s reclining deeper into the moment than anyone else, but here he sounds practically horizontal, drifting through the album with the kind of ease you only get when you’ve already outpaced the stress.

The first thing you notice is the temperature. This album is warm, humid, sticky — the kind of heat that makes you crack a window even though you’re not letting any of it out. The beats feel like they were rolled in kief: soft edges, fuzzy glow, but still potent enough to hit your chest. Smoove floats over them like he’s exhaling entire monologues, each bar a slow plume rising toward the ceiling.

There’s a hypnotic rhythm to the way he talks his talk. He doesn’t punch in; he glides. He doesn’t flex; he shrugs. His voice barely rises above a murmur, but the confidence is loud enough to fog up the rearview mirror. On Baby 2, he’s perfected that smoked‑out, eyes‑half‑open delivery — the kind of tone that makes you lean back without realizing you’re doing it.

What makes the album special is how it captures the full spectrum of being high without ever sounding lazy. It’s alert when it needs to be, paranoid in flashes, triumphant in bursts, and blissed-out in the spaces between. Tracks feel like different strains: some heavy and introspective, some floaty and euphoric, some sharp enough to cut through the haze. Smoove’s world is cloudy, but his focus is razor clear.

He raps like someone who’s seen every angle of the game and decided the quietest one is the strongest. No yelling, no overexertion — just precision. Just presence. Just that Detroit cool that feels like it’s been filtered through a thick cloud of smoke and still comes out clean.

Baby 2 is a late-night drive with the windows cracked, a slow burn that never tunnels, a playlist for plotting the next ten moves while the world outside dissolves into vapor. It’s Baby Smoove at his most vaporous, most effortless, and most dialed-in — a strain you can only get from Detroit.

Codeine Cowboy: Babyface Ray's Narcotized Masterpiece

Babyface Ray’s fourth studio album, Codeine Cowboy , dropped on August 14, 2025, via Wavy Gang and EMPIRE. Clocking in at 19 tracks and roughly 58 minutes, it arrives as a dense, immersive journey through Detroit’s gritty streets and hypnotic soundscapes. Concept and Context Building on over a decade of independent releases, Ray cements his standing in Midwest hip-hop with an album that feels simultaneously familiar and exploratory. Codeine Cowboy leans into a narcotized trip aesthetic — melding lean-soaked metaphors with streetwise narratives — to probe deeper themes of survival, loyalty, and self-preservation. Sonic Landscape and Production Producers like 4amjuno, BrentRambo, and Canessauce craft sparse, rolling backdrops — plush 808s, whispered vocal chops, and mournful piano loops — that amplify Ray’s gravelly delivery. The minimalism leaves room for atmospheric dips into R&B, trap, and Detroit-tinted soul. Featured Collaborations Lil Yachty injects playful swagger o...
